Prehistory is concerned with cultures or ways of
life rather than with precise dates and events, and this may account for the
great popularity of archaeology today. Archaeologists seek to discover through
studying the remains of our remote ancestors, what natural conditions they
faced and how they solved the all-important problems of finding food, shelter
and clothing, what implements they used in their daily struggle for existence,
and what can be surmised of their thoughts and ideas. The limited amount of
surviving material has made this study a demanding one and many of the
resources of modern science have been called in to aid the archaeologist in
his search for a full understanding of the way of life of early peoples. |
