The holdings of the Somerset Record Office are constantly growing through the addition of records from public and private sources.  Documents, photographs, recordings and printed material relating to the county's history are welcomed, either as gifts or on long-term loans. They are carefully stored in purpose-built strongrooms.  Professional archivists arrange and list documents received, and ensure the items have suitable packaging. Necessary conservation work is undertaken by a trained conservator.  Documents are then made available to the public in supervised search rooms.  No charge is made for this service.  New deposits of records relating to Somerset are always welcome.
